Direct answer

In a construction company or engineering practice, AI mainly helps with reading and writing: going through a tender and its special conditions, comparing subcontractor bids, writing site meeting minutes. Quantities and prices are still calculated in your estimating software; AI prepares and checks, the project manager decides.

Going through a tender

The assistant reads the tender documents (specification, special conditions, standard items) and lists the deadlines, penalties, guarantees, departures from SIA 118 and unclear items to clarify before pricing. The project manager starts from that list, not from a blank page.

What we measure — Time spent reading a tender, and how many clarification questions are raised before the bid rather than after.

Comparing subcontractor bids

Three bids received in three different formats: the assistant puts them into one table, item by item, and flags what is missing or excluded. The choice stays with the site manager.

What we measure — Comparison time per work package, and discrepancies discovered after award.

Site meeting minutes

From notes taken in the meeting or dictated on a phone, the assistant writes the minutes in the company’s format: decisions, actions, owners, deadlines. The minutes go out, reviewed, the same day.

What we measure — Time between the meeting and sending the minutes, and how many open items are followed through to closure.

Contract terms (SIA 118 standard, the client’s special conditions) prevail: AI flags them, it does not interpret them in place of the project manager. Clients’ plans and documents are often confidential; the tools we select make it possible to honour those commitments if data is not used for training and access is limited to the project.

How much does it cost for an SME?

A half-day workshop on your own cases: from CHF 1,900 excl. VAT. To roll it out with your teams: a subscription from CHF 1,800/month (10 h), three months minimum, or a fixed-price engagement on quotation. Details are on the pricing page.

Do we need an AI manager?

No, not in an SME. What works: a contact point who validates usage, not a dedicated role.
