Can AI replace an accountant?

No: AI replaces neither judgement, nor responsibility, nor the client relationship. It takes over part of the repetitive work (entering documents, preparing payment reminders, summaries, first drafts) and frees time for checking and advice. The right question is therefore: how many hours a week can it free up, and on which tasks?
Someone must always sign off the figure, the advice and the decision, and answer for the year-end accounts. Measure the gain task by task, including review time: that figure, not a general promise, tells you whether the tool is worth its price.
